What is my child's login and password?
Why do some students have a rug-ed case and others a maxshield case?
The Troy School District has been piloting a new more durable iPad case. During this pilot, some grade levels and students who have needed replacement iPads due to damage, have been supplied this new case. Moving forward, all of our student iPads will be placed in this case. For additional questions, see your building computer tech and/or principal.
What do I do if my iPad is damaged, stolen or missing?
Damaged: Have your child bring their iPad to their Building Computer Tech. The Tech will send home a replacement form for the parent/guardian to sign. DO NOT remove the case or take the iPad to the Apple Store or other repair facility.
Stolen: Contact your Principal immediately so that the device can be locked down and provide the school with a copy of a police report, if applicable.
Missing: Have you child see their Building Computer Tech immediately. They have tools to potentially locate the device.
Each building has tech support on-site to assist students, staff and parents during school hours.

WHat does "opt-out" mean and can i opt back in?
Opt-Out means that iPad is placed in your school's Media Center (or with a specific classroom teacher) and checked in/out daily. The iPad does not go home with the child; It will be used in the classroom as a learning tool, much as a text book is used.
If a child has homework assigned with the device, arrangements will need to be made for the child to use a home computer/device or a paper copy of the assignment. This does not preclude the child from paying for damage to the device. If the device is damaged during the time it is checked out to the child, they are responsible for all repair or replacement according to the Student iPad Responsibility Form.
A parent can Opt their child back in at any time. They will be responsible for signing a new Student iPad Responsibility Form and AUP, if one was not previously signed, so that the student can take the iPad home. See you Building Principal or Computer Tech for additional information and forms.

We also want to take this opportunity to announce two new channels for support. We have opened a Twitter account to increase communication channels to our students, parents, and educational community. Please follow us at @TSDTechDept for important future communication. You can also continue to direct questions and concerns to [email protected] as well as talk to your local building technician.
We are also on a trial basis planning to have a help desk individual available by email and phone Monday – Thursday from 5PM – 8PM through the end of the October. This will allow direct access to a support technician as issues arise, so that quick resolution is possible especially at the beginning of a school year when many tasks are completed for the first time. At the end of October, we will evaluate the utilization/need for this service and make a decision regarding its continuation. The phone number for the TSD Help Desk is 248-823-5092.
We thank you for your patience, and we hope that the changes in place improve the home use of your students’ devices.

What is schoology and who uses it?
The Troy School District uses Schoology, an award-winning Learning Management System that offers our students (grades 6-12) the opportunity to submit assignments, view course syllabus content, access missing and upcoming work, see grades, participate in group discussions, interact with teachers and track their progress. Schoology (pronounced: Skool'uh-jee)
Why do I need a Parent Schoology account?
Secondary Parents (grades 6-12) need to create a Schoology Account to follow their student's coursework progress through either logging into the portal or by setting up weekly or monthly notifications. A parent account allows you access to view student activities, courses, calendars, grades, groups, homework, class syllabus content and discussions. Teachers can also send you updates and notes regarding your child's coursework, conduct or upcoming classroom activities.
What if I have more than one child in grades 6-12?
If you have more than one child in 6th-12th grade, you will receive separate codes for each student, and will have the ability to link them to just one parent Schoology parent account.
Each middle or high school has a dedicated Schoology Support staff person that can assist you with questions or concerns.

My child's school is not listed correctly - what do i do?
If your child recently move from one building to another during the school year, the parent account may not update as quickly as the student account. Please contact your Building Schoology SuperUser or Building Computer Tech.
How is schoology different from home access center?
Schoology will update you on your child's current progress, homework , etc... and Home Access Center will update you on your child's attendance and final grade report.
My child is in elementary school and has a schoology account, now what?
There is a FREE version of the Schoology software and some elementary classroom teachers have opted to use this FREE account. This is a different limited-version of the Schoology software that we have implemented for secondary students.
You will be instructed to DELETE the FREE student account. For elementary parent accounts, you will need to create a new account (or use a different email address). you will be provided new student access codes from their classroom teachers.
